At a business breakfast organized on 24 March 2025 by the Japan-Bulgaria Business Association (JBBA) in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency (BSMEPA), the strategic directions for the Bulgarian-Japanese cooperation in the context of Expo 2025 in Osaka were outlined.
The event was attended by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, Tomislav Donchev – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth, Petar Dilov – Minister of Economy and Industry, Miroslav Borshosh – Minister of Tourism, H.E. Mr. Hisashi Michigami – Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Bulgaria, Dr. Boyko Takov – Executive Director of , representatives of state institutions, business and diplomatic corps.
In his address, the President of the Republic of Bulgaria highlighted the long-standing bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Japan based on mutual trust and respect and decades of intensive contacts in the fields of culture, education and economy. In Rumen Radev’s words, for Bulgaria Japan is a model for promising socio-economic development, where centuries-old traditions coexist with leading technologies in science and industry.
“Japanese business is returning to Bulgaria, which suggests that cooperation between the two countries may enter a new phase. To this end, Bulgaria needs to reposition itself – not only as a country of yoghurt and rose oil, but also as a good environment for doing business,” Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev said in his address.
The main focus of the event was Bulgaria’s preparation for participation at the EXPO 2025 World Expo in Osaka, where Bulgaria will present a top-class interactive national pavilion in Zone A. It is located among the most prestigious locations of the exhibition, between the pavilions of Singapore and the Netherlands and opposite one of the main entrances of EXPO 2025.
“The Bulgarian Pavilion will be a place where tradition and technology will meet to showcase not only our rich culture but also the opportunities for business, investment and collaboration with Bulgarian companies. This is a chance for Bulgarian companies and entrepreneurs to position themselves in one of the most competitive markets, build new partnerships and strengthen existing ones,” said JBBA Chairman Mr. Todor Kesimov.
